tears of the silenced

The Film

Based on Tears of the Silenced, the best-selling memoir about child abuse in the Amish, the  dramatic adaptation of Misty Griffin’s inspiring story takes us through her ordeal in an Amish community - where pedophilia was never reported or punished - and her escape and efforts to save her sister and bring the perpetrators to justice, all while adapting to a modern life she had  never known.

Now a Registered Nurse, happily married and with a child of her own, Misty has dedicated her life to saving children from the hell she endured. She is the Consulting Producer on a documentary series about child abuse in Amish and other cloistered communities, premiering on Peacock this May as Sins of the Amish. She is also working to pass legislation to mandate reporting of child abuse in cloistered communities such as the  Amish and to extend Erin’s Law - which mandates age-appropriate sex abuse education in  public schools - to private schools and religious communities.

Filmmaker Elizabeth Page has collaborated with Misty to adapt her memoir. Elizabeth is a  multiple award-winning writer whose first play was picked up by Olympia Dukakis and went Off  B’way at Circle in the Square Downtown. The success of the play got her into television where  she won six Emmy awards and began making award-winning shorts, commercials and web  pieces. Elizabeth is also the founder of From Script to PreProduction, a lab for women  filmmakers supported by NYWIFT, Entertainment Partners, WIP and Light Iron. You can find out more about Elizabeth’s work on www.fs2p.org and www.aboutthatnightthefilm.com.
